Ice Dam Removal Services
Ice dams can cause a number of problems for homeowners during the cold Wisconsin winters. An ice dam is a block of ice that forms near the lower edge of your roof and over your gutter system. It can be caused by a number of factors but most commonly it is due to heat escaping through the roof which melts snow and then it freezes when it reaches the overhang portion of your roof where there is no heat escaping, causing it to freeze as a solid block. An ice dam that remains ignored can cause your gutters to be torn off, it can loosen your shingles, and it can cause water to leak into your home.
If you notice ice dams forming on your home or if your home has a history of ice dams, we can provide a cost-effective solution. Ice Dam Warning Signs
There are a number of warning signs to watch out for that could help you recognize an ice dam before it happens. The most obvious warning sign is that if you’ve seen ice dams during a previous winter season, there is a good chance they will continue to form if you didn’t address the issue previously. Another easy to recognize sign is if you see ice beginning to form near the edge of your roof. Ice dams form as a result of ice accumulation. So the sight of ice near the edge is just the beginning and an ice dam will surely form if enough time passes. Recognizing ice or water buildup in other areas can also be a warning sign. The soffit, which is the underside of the part of your roof overhang, may experience ice buildup. You may also see ice or water on exterior walls of your home, a sign that ice isn’t going over the edge or through your gutter system. Ice can also build up behind your gutters, which will almost certainly lead to larger ice blocks forming near that area. The last warning sign is something you are likely to notice as soon as it starts happening. If you notice water coming through the framework of a window or a door, there is a good chance there is an ice dam above it.
If you notice one or multiple cases of these warning signs, we strongly encourage you to have an expert come out and assess the situation. It’s better to address these concerns early before any major damage occurs to your home.
